Board of Directors

Officers of the Board

Dallas Grubenmann Pferde Traum Farm – Breton, AB Second Term (2016-2019) A competitive eventer, Dallas started breeding New Forest Ponies after the loss of her esteemed Thoroughbred stallion. She enjoys riding the ponies as an adult as it brings her back to her own Pony Club days. In addition to raising four active children, all under the age of ten, and teaching Pony Club, Dallas coaches and competes in three-day eventing. Her Pferde Traum Farm in Breton, AB, stands two New Forest stallions, Manoravon Master Majestic (Woodrow Fieldmaster x Forest Hill Jessie Bell) and Fox Hollow Holly’s Legacy* (Luckington Legacy x Fox Hollow Heather’s Holly); Forest Hill Martian (Merrie Mars x Merrie Maundy) also stood at stud there until his passing in 2010. For most people, all that work with ponies and children would be enough, but Dallas also graciously offers her time in supporting many initiatives for the NFPSNA. Also serving as the Board’s Canadian representative, Dallas has been volunteering her time to the Society since 2009.

Amanda Raphaelson Trappe Springs Farm – Upperville, VA Second Term (2016-2017) While mucking stalls, cleaning tack, and grooming school horses in exchange for riding lessons after school in Northern California, Amanda dreamt of a life with horses. After marrying Marc Raphaelson in 1980 and delivering their second child in 1991, Amanda retired from a career in opera and purchased her first horse. Forward 20 years, and the family was breeding quiet-tempered, small Hanoverians for children and petite adults. Still not quite satisfied, Amanda continued to look for that unique combination of smaller size, movement, and temperament and found the perfect fit - New Forest Ponies! Purchasing the 240- year-old Trappe Springs Farm, located in the beautiful Virginia Piedmont in 2007, the family could now have New Forest Ponies in their lives every day on the 17-acre farm. Having been on the NFPSNA Board of Directors since 2010, Amanda stepped into the role of Vice-President in 2014 and also serves as Points Secretary for the NFPSNA Show Program.

Christina Warfel New Providence, MD Second Term (2016-2017) Christina inherited a love of horses and has been infatuated with them since she was very young. She took riding lessons off and on for years on various breeds and eventually fell in love with both dressage and trail riding. But after the birth of her daughter, riding took a back seat. She works full time at a law firm as a legal assistant, a job she enjoys. She also has the opportunity to work weekends at a nearby farm that raises New Forest Ponies, and it is there that she fell in love with the New Forest Pony’s intelligence, temperament, and athleticism. She especially loves working with the foals and thinks foal-watching is great fun. Christina now owns her first pony, a filly named Wrefleksion (Hoppenhof’s Silvia x Wicked Courtjester). Christina is just delighted with her young mare, commenting that she is very athletic and intelligent and has quite the curious sense of humor. Having joined the Board in 2012, Christina has moved into the Secretary/Treasurer position in 2014 and she also serves as the editor for the Society’s newsletter.

Karen Erickson Unlimited Ponies – Clovis, CA Second Term (2016-2017) Karen grew up eventing, and, she jokes, “Like most unsuccessful eventers, I soon realized my body could not withstand any more injuries, so I switched to dressage.” After years of 17-hand horses that showed talent not only in dressage, but bucking, too, Karen’s confidence – like happens to many – suffered a meltdown, and she began her search for a pony. She was hooked as soon as she found the cute and talented New Forest Pony named Far Above Par (Jacodi’s Anja’s Amoz x Hoppenhof’s Merel).  Per Karen, “Never had I ridden such a quiet-minded creature. Although it isn't always easy to compete against the lofty gaited horses, we always have fun, and I know I am safe.”  Once reaching 4th Level dressage, Far Above Par has moved on, and Karen then imported a promising young New Forest stallion, Brando (Orlando x Elvira), who competes in dressage.  Karen first joined the Board in 2014, where her sense of humor and vast show experience are very much welcomed. Lisa Graf New Bern, NC First Term (2015-2016) Lisa relays that she was born loving horses although nobody in her family had ever owned one. A teenager by the time she wore her parents down, she finally got her first horse.  As Lisa puts it, “I think my mother finally gave in, because she was quite sure I would get tired of taking care of it and lose interest. That never happened! I started with a pony that a friend had outgrown and never looked back.” In 1983 Lisa joined the Marine Corps after her recruiter told her that most Marine Corps bases had boarding stables. As she was transferred to different duty stations, she hauled her horse (an Appaloosa gelding) from her home in Kansas to North Carolina, then to Tennessee and Chicago. Her last tour of duty was in New Orleans, where Lisa became interested in competing in dressage and developed a liking for smaller horses. Lisa and her husband retired from the Marine Corps and settled in New Bern, NC, but Lisa continued to work for the Marine Corps and Navy as a Civil Servant.  Currently in her barn is an 11-year-old Holsteiner/Paint cross mare that Lisa bought as a green 4-year-old and has now shown in dressage through 2nd level. Looking for another green horse to bring along while she was showing her mare, Lisa set out looking for a dressage pony. Although she’d never heard of New Forest Ponies, she found a farm with them in NC and fell in love with a talented youngster, Whaiku, for both his movement and outgoing personality.  Already started with some in-hand shows together this will definitely be a great team to watch! Stacia Purcell Seafire Sporthorses – Elkton, FL Second Term (2016-2017) Stacia, with a Master’s in Business Administration, is a Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian specializing in Insulin Pump Therapy. Having grown up in Kalispell, Montana, she – along with the help of her mother – owned and bred her first horse.  Fast forward 30 years, and Stacia now owns and operates Seafire Sporthorses in St. Augustine, Florida, along with her two girls. The farm stands the approved KWPN stallion Richard, and the newly-approved Belgische Rijpony and first-cross New Forest Pony stallion, Oh Kaptain Underpants SFS (FS Daily Hero x Manoravon Master Elegance).  Expecting their first second-generation foal in 2014, the farm typically produces 2-3 foals each year. Stacia’s girls show in both hunters/jumpers and dressage.  2014 marked the first year on the Board for Stacia, bringing great experience and new ideas to the table. Dana Stark Starkwood Farm – Woodstock, CT First Term (2016-2017) A self-proclaimed pedigree geek, Dana was first been exposed to New Forest Ponies over three decades ago at Mrs. Mary Wilson's Jacob's Hill Farm in Seekonk, MA.  It was at this farm where, for many years, Dana was one of Mrs. Wilson’s barn kids, helping to break in ponies and handle young stock. Her background experience is predominantly hunter/jumper, but also includes Pony Club and dressage.  She is currently having a blast showing her homebred mare, Starkwood Wicked Wonder, in the dressage ring. Having previously served as the first Registrar for the Society, Dana has graciously agreed to come back to serve on the Board.
